Founded in 1896, Michaelhouse, the Anglican Diocesan college of Natal, is acknowledged as one of the world's leading independent senior all-boarding schools for boys.
The School enjoys a unique country setting on a gracious 600 hectare estate in the picturesque KwaZulu- Natal Midlands of South Africa, surrounded by rolling green hills, natural bush, forests and sparkling clear streams. A more idyllic environment, in which a boy may develop and grow during his formative years, is difficult to imagine.
A man of vision, the Founder wrote, 'A man's tone, moral and spiritual as well as intellectual, is largely determined for life, by his school.'
Michaelhouse thus carries a long and proud tradition of excellence.
As a Christian School, spiritual life revolves around the chapel, considered to be among the loveliest school chapels in the country. Its magnificent Bossanyi windows are recognised as one of the art treasures of Southern Africa.
The distinctive architectural style of interlinked quadrangles facilitates daily personal interaction among the boys and the resident staff.
A rich diversity of educational opportunity is provided for Michaelhouse boys. Seventeen academic subjects are offered in numerous package options and top academic results in the Independent Examination Board Examinations are consistently achieved.
Twelve playing fields include an artificial surface hockey facility. A heated swimming pool, 7 tennis courts, a 6 court squash complex, basketball courts, a golf driving range and a dam for canoeing ensure boys are able to excel at sport as well.
Boys are able to participate in over 40 active clubs, societies and interest groups for their further enrichment.
Michaelhouse welcomes visitors to our famous chapel as well as to our magnificent estate.
'The aim of Michaelhouse is not to make accountants, or clerks or doctors or clergymen, but men: men of integrity, understanding, thought and culture.'
Founder James Cameron Todd.
