KwaZulu-Natal is paradise for the golfer. The Durban Country Club, for example is regarded as the number 1 course in South Africa and on the African continent. It has hosted more South African Opens than any other Club has. Furthermore, a number of quality courses dot the South Coast, from Amanzimtoti country Club down South. Courses are also common on the North Coast. Zimbali, the popular Umhlali country Club and the new links-type Prince's Grant are three highly enjoyable and top quality options. Inland, Kloof Country Club (which is 90 km from Durban and next to the national highway to Johannesburg) is set in beautiful, park-like surroundings on the slopes of the high hills just to the north of the provincial capital of Pietermaritzburg. The 18-hole courses at Ladysmith, Estcourt and Newcastle are recommended, while many of the Midlands' smaller towns have interesting little nine-hole courses, like those at Richmond and Howick.
