Dolphin Watching and Tours in KwaZulu-Natal

The three dolphins which are normally seen along the coast
of the Zulu Kingdom or KwaZulu-Natal are the:
Common Dolphin:
2.5 m, 160kg
Long Black pointed beaks
Face has a 'highway man – like' black mask
Upper back and dorsal fin are black
Sides and tummy yellow white
Form shoals of up to 5000.
Seen in the hundreds during KZN Sardine Run.
Humpback Dolphin:
+/-200kg, 2.5m
Have a distinctive hump on their backs.
Often seen in the Richards Bay area.
Bottlenose Dolphin:
+/- 2,4m, 140kg
Name is derived from the shape of snout and head.
Belly off-white with gery spots. Grey upper body.
Tend to form schools of 20 to 50 animals.
Boats are not allowed closer than 50m from dolphins,
and swimming with them is definitely illegal.
