January 2018 sees the 24th N3TC Drak Challenge Canoe Marathon, and the athletes and their spectators can barely wait for the excitement that this event promises. It will take place on the Mzimkhulu River in the scenic southern Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal, assuring visitors of backdrops that are nothing short of awe-inspiring.
This is one of the three largest races in South Africa and covers a massive 72 kilometres over the course of the event. About 1 000 paddlers participate, and each is determined to tackle the steep, rocky reaches of the Mzimkhulu River over the two days. This technically challenging course is matched by the pristine, clear waters of the Drakensberg for spectacular results.
