Description

From the tiny hamlet of Weenen drive through picturesque Zulu country across river drifts and bushtracks to the romantic river camp of your dreams. Uninterrupted leisure or adrenalin - pumping adventure. Zingela magic is adventure, service, campfire cuisine and unique en-suite accommodation.

Getting There

Leave Durban on the N3. Bypass the towns of Pietermaritzburg, Howick and Mooi River and Estcourt.

Travel past the ULTRA CITY

Look out for the Winterton /COLENSO turnoff (R74). (I am not sure what else is on the board.)Take this glide off and turn right. You will cross the freeway

The road will take you past some historical sites and the Zebra shop where the best venison biltong can be purchased. Once you have stocked up (entirely optional!) you will see the Colenso glide off ahead. Take it.

At the top of the glide off, set your odometer to 0.0km. Turn right & cross the freeway. Travel in the direction of Weenen/ Muden. Within 2 .1 Kms you will see gum trees on your left and also a sign saying Tugela Game Ranch (see directions in the blue box, to be used if this road is impassable due to rain).

Take this turn. Do not take the tracks that lead toward civilisation on your left. The track is very rutted but improves when you hit the gravel road.

You will see farmlands on your left and right and cattle grids spanning the road. The dam (16.9) kms is a good landmark.

An old farmstead is straight ahead, the road veers to the right the farmhouse. When you cross the cattle grid (18.3 km) do not go straight. Bear right and the road will lead you past neat Zulu huts and a recently completed school on your left.

Keep right at the pipes (22 kms) and travel up hill. .The road now will level out and then descend into the valley. It is a rocky road so take time to enjoy the panoramic views!

Zulu homesteads line parts of this section. Don?t be tempted to veer left after the broken gate 27.7 kms. Keep straight and follow the graded road.

You will see poles of an old rhino boma ahead. Keep right with the poles on your left. The road is quite steep so rather identify trees than speed. It?s the right thing to do. More lovely views, this time over the Bloukrantz valley. The good road ends at a VERY indistinct Y/T junction.30.2kms. Go LEFT, if you go right you will go to Weenen where you might well weep!

You will pass a dam and borehole on your left. At the borehole (30.7 kms) keep RIGHT! Follow your nose and the map always taking the well-used track. Bear left at the Three (a debatable point!) Aloe Fork. (35.4kms)

You will pass a dam, cross a dry river bed, pass under some Eskom lines and then you know you are close to Zingela camp.

The road to the left leads to the kitchen & accommodation units; bear right and 200m to the river.

House on the Hill road to the right. WELCOME!!
