TOP 4 SOUTH COAST BEACHES & WHAT TO DO NEARBY, KWAZULU-NATAL

Top South Coast Beaches

There are so many stunning South Coast beaches to visit in KwaZulu-Natal that your holiday would not be complete without making a stop and exploring at least one of them. Here are some of the top beaches on the South Coast and what you can do nearby.

  1. Margate Main Beach

Centrally located, lots of shopping available and buzzing nightlife. These are some of the reasons why Margate’s main beach is one of the best and most popular beaches to visit. Many large-scale events are hosted on this beach, such as the South Coast Bike Fest. During peak seasons there are lifeguards on duty to ensure yours and your family’s safety. If you’re visiting with family or friends, this is a great beach to visit!

Nearby you also have access to shops and restaurants ranging from take-aways to sit down pubs and food chains, swimming pools and the Margate pier for fishing.

  1. Lucien Beach

This beach is located not too far away from the Margate main beach, in fact, you could argue that they share the same piece of land. The only difference is that Lucien beach has held the title of a ‘blue flag beach’. Some also refer to Lucien Beach as Margate North Beach, and it’s perfect for a place to chill out with less of a crowd than the main Margate beach. It’s important to note though that there are steps to walk down to access the beach from the main road, so this one is not recommended with people with disabilities. Lifeguards are on duty throughout the year and you and your family will have access to tidal pools, shops, a butchery, pubs and restaurants. There’s also Go-Karting close by, so you won’t run out of things to do!

  1. Michael’s Beach

If you’re a bodyboarder or a surfer, then this beach is the perfect one for you! St. Michaels beach is known to have one of the best point breaks in the country, provided the winds are right. Safety is a priority with lifeguards on duty throughout the year, as well as routine checkups of shark nets. Thinking of taking the family on a picnic? No problem! There’s a grassy space to enjoy, plenty of parking and restaurants close by to enjoy. You also have close access to tidal pools and splash pools for the kids!

  1. Ramsgate Beach

Offering a one-of-a-kind experience, Ramsgate beach is surrounded by natural vegetation which makes this beach one of the most scenic beaches out there. With a park-like feel at the end of the river mouth, there are tons of recreational activities available to enjoy such as pedal boats and kayaking! Don’t worry, there are lifeguards on duty throughout the year and some of the most popular restaurants around.

Treat yourself to delicious waffles at The Waffle House, or whale watch from the deck. With a bustle of activity happening, you and the family are sure to be entertained!

If you are looking for the perfect beach holiday filled with sunshine, activities and great times, then KwaZulu-Natal is the place to be!
